A teenager who drew moustache to Erdogan’s photo was detained

A 16-year-old high school student in Mersin/Turkey was detained and subsequently arrested for allegedly drawing a moustache on a campaign poster featuring the President of Turkey and the leader of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The incident occurred during the presidential election campaign when posters of Erdogan were displayed in various parts of the city.

The teenager was referred to the prosecutor’s office. He was then brought before a duty court on charges of insulting the president and subsequently detained, being sent to the Tarsus Closed Juvenile Institution for execution.
